Woodsy wins Gold at Ski Slopestyle World Cup at Winter Games NZ

GB Park and Pipe skier James ‘Woodsy’ Woods has won the first FIS Ski Slopestyle World Cup of the year in Cardrona, New Zealand, part of the Winter Games NZ.

The Sheffield-born skier went into the competition on top form after recently winning the North Face Freeski Open for the second year in a row - and he couldn’t be touched in the high caliber field of the finals, taking the title with a winning run score of 93.40, beating reigning Olympic Champion Joss Christensen who took bronze, with Norway’s Oystein Braaten in second place.

"Just being on the start list and competing with these guys is an absolute honour," said Woodsy. "It genuinely took a couple of days to really find your flow. Usually it's like, this line is good, this line is the easy one, this is the hard one. There was no easy or hard line on those rails, it was a challenge for the best of us."

Woodsy will now go on to compete in the Big Air final on Sunday where he will hope to add to his titles.
