Delancey British Alpine Champs 2016....Entry Closing Soon!

One week until entries close for the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships Athletes.

Coaches and parents have just one week left to enter into the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships in Tignes, which run from 20th March to 1st April 2016. Snow conditions in the run up to the Championships look very promising with heavy snow falling in Tignes, and more snow forecast. The all mountain conditions should be great and, providing the snow in France stops falling, the piste preparation should be excellent.

The 2016 Senior and Junior Championships will see athletes from the Delancey British Alpine Senior Squad, including current Slalom World Cup contender Dave Ryding, Alex Tilley, Charlie Guest, Cara Brown and Roy Steudle. The Senior and Junior Championships run 20th-27th March.

The 2016 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Children’s Championships will see hundreds of skiers battle it become British Champion and take part in fun, competitive races from 27th March to 3rd April.

To enter both the Senior/Junior and Children’s Championships visit the following link http://www.ersa.co.uk/online_registration

Day three was Downhill Day at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships 2016, with bright sunshine again blessing the pistes of Tignes.

The female racers tackled the Downhill course twice in one day, with both the Ladies’ Delancey National Championships and the Ladies’ Delancey National Junior Championships taking place today.

In the Ladies’ National Championships, Alex Tilley (1.16.50) again stood on the top of the podium and was crowned Delancey British National Downhill Champion, beating her friend and rival Cara Brown into second place (1.17.25). Yasmin Cooper put in another solid performance to take third in a time of 1.18.65 and claim the prize for the fastest Under 18 athlete.

Cooper’s good day continued as she took the Delancey British National Downhill Junior Champion title in a time of 1.19.70, beating off challenges from Jessica Anderson (1.20.22) who took second and Erika Heginbotham (1.23.35) who finished third. Although not in contention for the podium prizes in the NJC, Cara Brown (1.17.67) got her revenge following the NC, just nudging out Alex Tilley (1.17.82) to win the race overall.

Alex Tilley said: “I had a couple of problems in both the training runs yesterday and to be honest, I didn’t nail it today either but I was quite happy with most of the course. It would be nice to do the clean sweep – I did it before, about three or four years ago and it was a pretty good feeling. I think maybe the competition is a bit harder though – I know Charlie Guest will be here for the slalom and she is skiing really well at the moment, getting some good results in the Europa Cup.

Doing the speed events is definitely an experience! The snow was very fast, which can play with your head as you’re heading into the big gates and things like that. It has definitely been good fun and I would like to spend a bit more time training it and learning it.”

Yasmin Cooper said: “It feels amazing to have done so well. I think if you had told me I was going to come to these races and get these results, I don’t think I would have believed you to be honest. I’ve always been a bit tentative with downhill and I tried to do this downhill last year, but I crashed, so to come back and face it again was a really good feeling to know I’ve overcome it.

I didn’t really expect to pick up any senior medals coming into the Championships, but obviously I hoped to and it was something I was striving for. I feel really good ahead of the tech events and really confident. I’ll do some training to get myself ready and hopefully I can pick up even more medals.”

In the Men’s National Championships, Roy Steudle fought off strong competition from the British field to secure the Delancey British National Downhill Champion crown, finishing in a time of 1.14.13. Just behind him was Max Baggio who clinched second spot in 1.14.53, and Ollie Davies who stood on the podium for the first time at these Championships, finishing in a time of 1.15.41. Iain Innes was the fastest Under 18 athlete, clocking a time of 1.16.46.

Roy Steudle said: “I was quite nervous because my training runs went well and that means there is a sense of expectation there. All in all it was a solid run and it was probably as good as I could ski. I’m here to win and it’s a race, so I was pleased to get gold.

I just want to try and produce some solid runs in the giant slalom because I haven’t been skiing that well recently. Just being able to do what I can do in training – I would be happy with that. I’m not too worried about beating people."

With one month to go until the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships, World Cup Slalom racer Dave Ryding announces attendance, alongside skiers from the Disabled Ski Team with Snow-Camp apprentices supporting the action

The countdown is on ahead of the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships, which get underway next month in the world class ski racing resort of Tignes. This year’s event, which will take place from 20th March to 1st April, is set to be the biggest event of the year for the British Ski Racing world, with the introduction of the British Disabled Alpine Ski Championships.

The 2016 event will see athletes from the Delancey British Alpine Senior Squad, including current Slalom World Cup contender Dave Ryding, whose season highlights include a 12th place finish in the World Cup Slalom in Val d’Isere, followed closely by a 13th place in Santa Caterina. Ryding will compete alongside other ones-to-watch including Britain’s current best female Alex Tilley following her PB this season with 19th in Lienz World Cup, Charlie Guest, Cara Brown, Roy Steudle and Jai Geyer. There will also be the chance to watch up and coming talent from the Delancey U21 and U18 Squads.

For the first time, the British Disabled Ski Team will also host their own Championships on the middle weekend of the Championships, with a Slalom on Saturday 26th March and a GS on Sunday 27th.

Delancey’s charity partner Snow-Camp will also be in resort, with two graduates, Jade and Shayleigh employed as part of the hill team. Jade (19), is in her second year with Snow-Camp, having been referred via the Not In Education, Employment or Training (NEET) youth service in Lewisham, whilst Shayleigh (16) joined Snow-Camp after being referred by her youth project XLP. She now is working as an apprentice for the Ski Club of Great Britain.

Dave Edwards, Chief Executive of British Ski and Snowboard said: "It promises to be an exciting year for the Delancey Championships, with the best of our British Alpine talent battling it out to prove their capability against some of the best in the world. We are indebted to Tignes and Sir John and Jamie Ritblat from British Ski and Snowboard's Principal sponsor Delancey for helping us to arrange this spectacular climax to the British athletes’ racing season.”

Jamie Ritblat, founder and chairman of Delancey, Principal Sponsor of British Ski & Snowboard commented: “As Principal Sponsor of British Ski & Snowboard and Charity Partner to Snow-Camp, Delancey is committed to bringing the physical and intellectual benefits of snowsports to children across the UK, regardless of ability or background. We are delighted to host the British National Alpine Ski Championships once again and look forward to seeing both the athletes and apprentices in action on the piste.”

The innovative youth charity Snow-Camp uses a unique combination of skiing, snowboarding and life-skills programmes to influence the lives of young people by installing a driving passion to work hard not just on the slopes but also in their day-to-day lives. Their impressive impact can be reflected by the growing numbers of Snow-Camp graduates across the different boroughs of London. So far, they have reached over 400 children across the UK and have seen the success of 5 graduates in Southwark, 22 in Tower Hamlets, 15 in Hackney, 12 in Newham and 14 in Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Principal sponsor Delancey has now supported the British National Alpine Ski Championships for 6 years and Chairman of Delancey’s Advisory Board and British Ski and Snowboard president, Sir John Ritblat, has sponsored the sport for 39 years – the longest standing personal sponsorship for a sport.

The Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships will continue to make its home in the French resort of Tignes for 2016. Taking place from 20th March to 1st April, the Championships will continue to be the biggest event on the British Alpine Ski Racing calendar.

The Senior, Junior and Children’s National Championships will all take place at the Stade Olympique de Lognan in Val Claret, Tignes’ highest village after a successful move to the Espace Killy in 2015.

Tignes continues to be at the cutting edge of major snowsports events, with unrivalled experience in hosting ski competitions and championships. With the base of the race piste used for the Championships situated at 2100m, it promises again to offer a world class ski racing venue.

Jamie Ritblat, founder of Delancey, commented:

"We are delighted to be returning to the excellent resort of Tignes for the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships 2016.

As Principal Sponsor of British Ski and Snowboard and long-term host of the Delancey Championships, we are immensely proud to be able to help our British snowsport athletes reach their medal-winning potential and have recently seen some tremendous results across all disciplines.

It makes us immensely proud to see our athletes in action and we look forward to watching the Alpine team compete in Tignes. We are confident the efficient resort team and high altitude conditions will make for another world-class Delancey Championship event.”

The Senior and Junior Championships will run from Sunday 20th March until Sunday 27th March and the Children’s Championships from Monday 28th March to Friday 1st April.
