Delancey Ones to Watch: Leon Drynan is all about The Brits

We catch up with 14-year old, GB Park and Pipe Academy snowboarder, Leon Drynan, who is part of the Delancey Ones to Watch series. Leon tells us all about his success at the British Snowboard and Freeski Championships (The Brits) in his final blog of the season.

Tell us about your recent trip to Laax?

It was amazing! I was there for 2 weeks, first week was a training camp, then The Brits comps the following week. It was really good to be back in Laax - more so, as last time I couldn’t stay for the competition. I took the Gold in the Under 16’s Slopestyle Champs, and Bronze overall. Taking the podium with Matt McCormick and Billy Morgan was pretty awesome.

I also took the Gold in the Under 16’s Picture Big Air Comp.

I was stoked to come home with 2 Golds and a Bronze from my first Brits.

The Brits recently introduced the "Ritblat Endeavour Awards" in conjunction with Delancey and GB Park and Pipe, was it fun to have that extra element added to the Big Air contest?

Yeah, it added a lot of hype to the competition. All the Young Guns were in the running for picking up the prize for performing the best trick of the day. I won 2nd for Best Trick, picking up a nice cheque for £250!

It was a BS Cork 720 Stalefish which did it. I missed the prize giving for it on the Friday as I wasn’t well so had to do the solo cheque pose when I got it, goggle tan and all!

I’ve bought myself a new skateboard. Trips are expensive as there’s no real funding available, so it’s gone into the Bank of Mum and Dad to put towards my next trip.

So the winter is now officially over.  What is next for you, have you plans for the summer?

We have a Park & Pipe weekend coming up soon with a session at Xscape, then diving and gymnastics in Edinburgh then a session at Bearsden on the Sunday. I guess we’ll have a better idea after that weekend about training plans for the forthcoming year.

No firm plans as yet, counting down the days till school finishes for the summer. I’m still keeping up my sessions at Xscape and Bearsden.

CSS League kicks off again for 2017 soon too so that’ll keep us busy and focused.

Thanks again to Delancey for selecting me as their Ones To Watch this season. Have a good Summer!
