Delancey British Alpine Ski Team announced for 2017/18 season

British Ski and Snowboard are pleased to announce the Delancey British Alpine Ski Team for the 2017/18 season. As we enter the start of an Olympic season, three World Cup athletes, six Europa Cup athletes, one FIS athlete and 17 Under-21 athletes will make up the 27-strong Delancey British Alpine Team.

Leading the charge is Slalom specialist Dave Ryding (30, Lancashire) who made history when he claimed the best World Cup finish for a British Alpine ski racer in 35 years after his second place finish in Kitzbuehel, Austria. Ryding finished the 2016/17 season 8th in the World Cup Slalom standings, and he will now go into the 2017/18 season ranked 9th in the world for Slalom, continuing to work with Tristan Glasse Davies and Ali Morton.

Alex Tilley (23, Aberdeenshire) will again be one to watch for the 2017/18 season, having already met qualification criteria for PyeongChang 2018 along with team mate Charlie Guest (23, Perthshire). Tilley and Guest will train together this season under coach Noel Baxter, making up the World Cup team alongside Ryding.

The Europa Cup team will be headed up by newly appointed coach Mike Pilarski, alongside Stefan Leitner, who was part of the British set up last year, and will consist of five male athletes, and one female athlete. Cara Brown (23, London) who had a strong end to last winter season after coming back from a knee injury, will continue to train with Orsatus Ski Racing. Then training together under Leitner and Pilarski for the 2017/18 season will be Laurie Taylor (21, Basingstoke), who finished an impressive 33rd in the Alpine World Championships in St Moritz, Billy Major (20, France), Charlie Raposo (21, London) and Nick Moynihan (23, East Sussex). Jack Gower (22, Chichester) will continue to train in the USA and compete both in the States and on the Europa Cup Circuit.

FIS Team athlete, 20-year-old Darcie Mead from Surrey, will be joined at FIS races by many of the Under 21 Delancey British Alpine Team athletes, who will be looking to continue their development towards Europa Cup and World Cup ambitions. The Under 21 Delancey British Alpine Team will consist of 17 athletes.

Delancey British Alpine Team Head Coach Reini Fernsebner said following the announcement: “We are currently in an exciting period for British Alpine Skiing, and working alongside BSS Performance Director Dan Hunt, we decided that bringing our athletes together in programmes, ensuring they can train together and benefit from pooled resources can only be a good thing. We are hugely indebted to our principle sponsor Delancey for all their support, and helping make these programmes a reality.”

The Delancey British Alpine Team is backed by Principal Sponsor Delancey, a specialist real estate investment and advisory company. The Team is also supported by the British Snowsports Fund (www.bssnf.uk), a scheme which allows ski and snowboard fans to give a small donation to support our elite teams and younger athletes via one of the Fund’s industry partners, for example when buying a holiday or purchasing kit.
